So ... we tip our hats to Mr. Richard Schechner and his work with the Environmental Theater. He recently did a presentation at the University of Hawaii - and I wasn't there to see it. I got all the 411 - and Lily told him how great I think he is!
We are using the entire room as our play area but it is divided into two distinct active spaces that we are calling the "cube set" and the "house set."
The cube set is an all white 12 foot high wall structure that isn't really a cube at all. It's two walls connecting to form a corner (L shape) that is 8 feet in depth and 16 feet long. They are made from constructed Eco-friendly panels that are 6'x4'. The floor is white as well. This is where our projections will land.
The house set is where the audience is and the rest of the room.
Some scenes occur on one set or the other or on both. I'm considering placing Artaudian audience facing lights along the top rim of the structure. We'll see.
Any ideas on how to manipulate the functionality? Pics coming soon!
